File Extension DRV
File extension DRV identifies the driver files of a particular hardware device, which facilitates the communication between the computer and attached hardware. On attaching a new hardware to the computer, the system will automatically start searching for corresponding device drivers.

DRV files contain commands, which enable internal and external devices to function well with the machine. Most often, the .DRV file extension component comes with the software installation CD, but once installed in the computer, they are stored at the system 32 folder. Many programs use this file extension and usually work by summoning a routine to the drivers, which then gives commands to the hardware device.

The device then sends relevant data to the hardware d river, which in turn triggers the relevant program to act on that command. Drivers depend on the hardware, but also lay specific emphasis on the operating system in use. A file extension DRV handles the time-dependent device interface responsible for the system-device synchronization. Ideally, users should not open the file extension DRV manually.

This is because any file extension DRV installed during hardware installation and the computer recognizing that there is a new hardware attached, automatically traces the drivers. This makes it unnecessary for the user to access the drivers manually to know which programs can open the file however, the user can take clues from the file location, the day and time that the file was modified and programs that were running when the specific file was modified.

This will most likely give the user pointers enough to allow him/her get a good enough conclusion on what device is responsible for the creation of the .DRV file extension. The absence of the DRV files from the system, either due to formatting of the hard disk by the user or due to a driver's registry attack by a malicious program leads to hardware malfunction.
